ANASCENA are seeking Veterans residing in the Greater London/Cambridge areas to train for the role of Slinger Signaller with a major construction company.
The job of a slinger signaller is one of the most important jobs on a building site. It requires skill, diligence, and concentration, working alongside the lifting teams to provide safe direction and supervision to the crane operators. Their main responsibility is to ensure the safety of the operators, and any other workers or site visitors that could be at risk.
The slinger signaller will act as the eyes and ears of the crane operator, who is likely to have an obstructed view of their surroundings. This obstructed view increases the risks involved with loading, lifting and generally operating the crane and so they need the slinger signaller to communicate via a series of hand signals to assist with manoeuvres.
No previous experience is necessary although knowledge of hand signals and experience of using them would be an advantage. All candidates will undergo a 12-month apprenticeship development programme in civil engineering. At the end of the course, the candidate will receive a fully accredited City & Guilds Certificate and the ability to work on UK construction sites (a CSCS Card).
There will be some residential training which will take place in Manchester but this will be no more than 3 weeks and full costs, including travel, accommodation and food will be covered.
The hours of work are 0830 to 1800 Monday to Friday and some Saturdays may be required. Hourly rate is £11.50 per hour. Trainees will be restricted to 8 hours per day and no overtime will be allowed. Overtime could be necessary on some projects once trained but this will be paid at 1.25 of the hourly rate for Monday to Friday and 1.50 for weekends. Some projects will require shift work and it is expected that the employees will make themselves available when asked.
The role requires someone who is a quick learner, with good leadership and concentration skills and an ability to use hand-signals. They need to be able to work in a team and under pressure, being able to assess risk and react to it in a way to ensure it is contained and no damage or injury is done to people or property.
A full driving licence is preferable but not required.
These roles are interviewing on Thursday 28 September and the training will start on 16 October so we are short of time.
