The Ministry of Defence said it will be researching and developing technology, which could support military personnel on the battlefield, in an £8m deal with Leonardo Helicopters.
The deal will focus on unmanned rotary wing devices and will use the expertise of workers at Leonardo Helicopters to explore new technologies.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon described the work as “innovative”.
Mr Fallon will make the official announcement during a speech on innovation at the University of Oxford on Monday.
